Kiwi Pineapple Salsa is a bright and refreshing summer salsa with both sweet and sour flavors that makes an excellent topping for fish and poultry dishes or can stand alone as a dip for tortilla chips. Pineapple adds sweetness, kiwi and lime juice add sourness, while red onion serves to contrast and enhance both flavors. Add a bit of jalapeño for a little heat and this salsa will make the perfect addition to your summer BBQ, luau, or even to dress up your weeknight taco dinner!

My family loves to add this to chicken and fish tacos but it is such a versatile side. I love that the fruit used in this recipe doesn’t brown so it is possible to make several hours to a day ahead.

Kiwi Pineapple Salsa Ingredients

Let’s take a closer look at the ingredients that make up this delicious side.

Kiwi

To know if kiwi is ripe, gently press on the kiwi. If it gives slightly under the pressure, it is ripe. If it is hard, it still needs some time. To hasten ripening, place kiwi in a paper bag at room temperature with an apple or banana.

Pineapple

Ripe pineapple should smell sweet. I prefer to use fresh pineapple in this recipe but canned can be substituted if needed.

Red Onion

Fresh red onion should feel firm to the touch.

Jalapeno

Jalapeños should be firm and the skin smooth.

Can I Make Kiwi Pineapple Salsa In Advance?

This salsa may be made ahead the day before but is best served the same day. It will keep in the refrigerator for 2-3 days.

Tips

  • Chop evenly – Pay careful attention to the size of your cuts. Evenly sized pieces help to create a balanced flavor and texture.
  • Pineapple – I prefer to use fresh pineapple in this recipe but canned can be substituted if needed.
  • Make ahead – This salsa may be made ahead the day before but is best served the same day.
